I chose to do a collage full of images. I did these because I think that using images is a lot easier to understand than just simply explaining things. These images each show different social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. For physical development I chose growth, puberty and agility. All three of these are things that adolescents go through as they get older. When they are in middle level grades they go through a lot of changes but the physical development is the most noticeable. For cognitive development I had images of making future decisions, paying attention, memory, and processing information. These are all mental developments. You aren’t born with these things but they naturally come as you grow up. During the middle level ages, these cognitive developments are very important. The social developments that I focused on were things like making friends, which is very important at this age. A lot of children have trouble or get nervous making friends in new environments. Being at a new place or school can make them develop social anxiety so being social when you are younger is a very good skill to have. Another point was fighting with your parents. Especially during the teen years a lot of kids argue with their parents and have disagreements about everything. The third image for social developments was about being a leader. Being a leader isn’t for everyone but it is good for children to take initiative. The main points of emotional development that I covered were self control, positive self image, feelings or empathy, and mood swings. These are all emotions that are even hard to control when you're older. Self control is hard for adolescents because their frontal lobe is not fully developed which makes them take more risks without knowing the consequences. Having a positive self image is hard for everyone but especially during this time when young kids' bodies are changing a lot they start to think negatively of themselves. All of these different developments work together to create a new and mature person. You gain a lot of life experiences during this age and knowing that everyone is going through so much change can be helpful.
